Thap Cham Digital Art Experiences
The project “Cham Tower Digital Art Experiences” brings a novel approach to the preservation of Cham Towers. It not only helps viewers cultivate a sense of appreciation and commitment to safeguarding the cultural essence established by the Champa kingdom, but it also provides visitors with a fresh and engaging experience through the use of distinctive graphic technologies.
BEHIND THE ARTWORKS
Problem in the society: Increasingly forgetting the value of history
The younger generation today is focusing on what is new, yet they forget that our ancestors are the ones who created us. This has led to the gradual erosion and neglect of cultural heritage sites in Gia Lai province (Binh Dinh province before) in general, and the Cham Towers in particular.
From this problem, I create the solution by the goal is to bring the Cham Towers back to life for more visitors, especially the current youth, by using modern display and interpretation technologies such as 3D Mapping, interactive information screens, and model viewing.
Once the project is completed, the work can be placed in an exhibition room at a local museum or used for a future exhibition. This will serve to introduce and promote the Cham Towers to tourists.
Modern Technology Integration
Using modern exhibition and interpretation technologies to present the ancient Cham Towers. This directly counters the youth’s focus on “new things” by engaging them on their own terms.
Re-Engagement of Youth
The primary strategic goal of the artwork is to bring the Cham Towers back to life for more visitors, especially the current youth. This focuses the project’s effort on reversing the trend of cultural heritage neglect.
Preservation and Promotion
The final solution involves placing the completed project in a strategic, accessible venue to ensure long-term visibility and broad outreach.
Procedures to do this project
Utilizes 3D Mapping to project dynamic content onto all sides of the physical model, while a connected 3D Interactive Website provides detailed information and facilitates hands-on interaction via a nearby touchscreen.

Idea & Research
Search for and synthesize the existing Cham Towers in the province, then analyze and research the meaning of each material and every motif used in the construction of the Cham Towers.

Model the tower
Transform and build the tower by Minecraft blocks, then convert it into 3D model object and adding texture.

Adapt to design
Design the interactive web and simulation of the exhibition. By using Spline and applying projection mapping to the current built model.
Idea & Research
The process of researching and reconstructing Cham towers was carried out through surveys and analysis of the original towers in Gia Lai. From there, distinctive features were simplified into basic geometric forms, mainly square blocks, in order to recreate a Cham tower model that both preserves the original value and aligns with modern restoration methods.
Model the tower
The project involves reconstructing a corner of the observed architectural structure in Minecraft using cubic blocks, then converting the model into a 3D file through third-party software. This file is imported into Blender to complete the full model, from which a horizontal cross-section of the tower is extracted to serve as the base for 3D mapping. A Neon Reveal effect is applied to emphasize the brick patterns, followed by the gradual appearance of the real bricks before the effect concludes. Finally, the completed visuals can be showcased using projection software such as Resolume.
